I generally don’t write film reviews but this movie has already been in the light of controversy as some male chauvinist cannot digest a movie like this, because they don’t find a fault in slapping a lady.
Well, coming to the movie’ Thappad’, no doubt the movie was expected to be good as the whole pressure was on the name of the director Anubhav Sinha. The screenplay and the characters did justice to the story of the film. I am not a critic but keeping the audience sense of movies, just sharing the views on this much – needed movie. This movie is not different, the story we watch in our families every day. It is not just a story of Tapsee Pannu fighting her self respect after a slap but a story of every woman in the film accepting the fact that they are women and they need to adjust.
‘ Ladki ho, thoda to adjust karna padega’, ‘ Maine kya beti ki shaadi ache ghar me isliye krayi thi wo maayke aakar baith jaaye’, these are the powerful statements that pinch you inside because you hear this everyday.
The lead character saying, ‘ bachpan me school me koi puchta tha bade hokar kya banna hai, to maine ye kabhi nahi kaha ki housewife banungi, kab uski achi biwi bante bante uski zindagi hi jeene lagi,pata hi nahi chala’, that’s how marriage changes a life of a woman. She leaves her whole family and start living a life for her in laws, husband and children. She has to be happy when her husband is happy, she has to be sad when her husband is sad and she can even digest a slam of her face because her husband is irritated and the husband will not even feel sorry for that. This is how our society is.
‘Tumhe khana banane nahi ata, maine foodie hokar bhi itna adjust kiya na, to tum mere ek behaviour ko ignore nahi kar sakti’, this questions the duty we have set for a woman in the society.
Pointing a single woman that how is she earning so good, remarks how society treats a single mother. Many such dialogues and scenes may lead you to think twice what do you want from life and how are you already accepting things in life.
