History or Rag?

Well it is not a fashion shoot infront of rags as per the trend holds today. I was totally unaware about it, had heard about this few months ago when @cityofpatna was planning to replace it to a safer place. Well, this is a steam engine powered road roller holding a history of 1862, was made by John Fawler & Co. It is still in a safer place but not preserved well, it is just in a form of rag beating the dust, rain and heat.
.

Lets get into how and where I found it. If you know about Collectorate Ghat, you must have a brief idea about Collectorate building which holds a Dutch Architecture, but the present condition of this place is worsened now and Bihar ministry is planning to destroy the place. Why not restore it than destroying?? We should take some inspiration from Southern states of restoring the old heritage and making it a place of visual treat to visitors. But what you find here today are just waste humps thrown around. Well, there is even a great history which we will talk about in next post or maybe a blog by Ashish Kaushik talks about why to @savehistoricpatnacollectorate .

Save historic Patna Collectorate II

This video project 'Patna Collectorate: A Forgotten Legacy' was conceived by Team Save Historic Patna Collectorate to save this iconic landmark from demolition by the Bihar government. The campaign was started in April 2016 to not only save the Collectorate but also connect the people of Patna to their neglected built heritage and seek their support in this larger cause. The historic Patna Collectorate complex on the banks of Ganga near Gandhi Maidan has a mix of Dutch and British architecture, carrying within its walls history of over 250 years. The Dutch-era Record Room, the oldest build of the Collectorate complex, has high ceilings and majestic colonnade of Tuscan pillars in the facade and massive eight pillars inside. The Old District Engineer's Office building is also from Dutch-era and is endowed with high ceilings and hanging skylights. The DM Office Building and 1938-built District Board Patna building are of British period. The Meeting Hall of the District Board Patna building has iconic flat Corinthian columns on its inside and beautiful doors all around. The hall is surrounded by a circumambulating corridor. The flat Corinthian columns are aesthetic and only of its kind in Patna and perhaps the only of its kind in Bihar. Some of the key scenes of Oscar-winning film 'Gandhi' was shot in Record Room and DM Office Building. Please join the campaign, now a veritable people's movement and help is saving a priceless architectural landmark of our city. The larger vision of this movement is to create an ethos of historic preservation in Patna and across Bihar. Please like and share this video to spread the message and strengthen this movement as we need love and support of all those who care for Patna.Video by: Ashish Kaushik, our proud teammate.Time running out, as the matter is in the Patna High Court and next hearing will happen soon to decide its fate.Support us on ground, join the movement and contribute and volunteer to save the past of Patna for the future.Support us also by visiting us on social media.
